Mauricio Betancourt

Mauricio Betancourt – Mexico
Mauricio is an Environmental Sociologist studying the nature-society relationship, global environmental change, and unequal development. Currently, he is a Visiting Assistant Professor in Sociology at Oberlin College. His research and teaching focuses on agriculture and global food systems, humanity’s impact on the environment, and unequal exchange and development. Other than this, he is interested in social theory, environmental history, conservation biology, and evolution. He utilizes quantitative and historical methods.

Mauricio est un sociologue de l’environnement qui étudie la relation nature-société, le changement environnemental global et le développement inégal. Il est actuellement professeur adjoint associé en sociologie à l’Oberlin College. Ses recherches et son enseignement portent sur l’agriculture et les systèmes alimentaires mondiaux, l’impact de l’humanité sur l’environnement, les échanges et le développement inégaux. En dehors de cela, il s’intéresse à la théorie sociale, à l’histoire de l’environnement, à la biologie de la conservation et à l’évolution. Il utilise des méthodes quantitatives et historiques.

Patrick Bond – South Africa
(born 1961, Belfast, Northern Ireland) is professor at the University of Johannesburg Department of Sociology. From 2020-21 he was professor at the University of the Western Cape School of Government and from 2015-19, distinguished professor of political economy at the University of the Witwatersrand Wits School of Governance.[1] Before that, from 2004, he was senior professor at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, where he directed the Centre for Civil Society.[2] His research interests include political economy, environment, social policy, and geopolitics.

Zo is a feminist and human rights activist and researcher from Madagascar. She is a sociologist by training, and the founder and Coordinator of the Research and Support Center for Development Alternatives – Indian Ocean – that currently provides support to communities affected by large scale mining and agricultural projects, with a focus on legal literacy and training on Business and Human Rights.

Zo est une féministe et militante des droits humain et chercheuse de Madagascar. Elle est sociologue de formation et fondatrice et coordonnatrice du Centre de Recherches et d’Appui pour les Alternatives de Développement – Océan Indien – qui fournit actuellement un soutien aux communautés touchées par des projets miniers et agricoles à grande échelle, en mettant l’accent sur la formation juridique et sur les affaires et les droits humain.

Marie-Monique Robin is a French TV journalist and documentary filmmaker. She generally issues books and documentary films together on the topics she investigates, in order to make more people aware of the issues she studies. Her latest work ‘La Fabrique des pandémies’ highlights the link between zoonotic diseases and lost of biodiversity. Her book has been the subject of a documentary film.

Marie-Monique Robin est une journaliste de télévision française et réalisatrice de documentaires. Elle publie généralement ensemble des livres et des films documentaires sur les sujets qu’elle étudie, afin de sensibiliser davantage les gens aux problèmes qu’elle étudie. Son dernier ouvrage « La Fabrique des pandémies » met en lumière le lien entre zoonoses et perte de biodiversité. Son livre a fait l’objet d’un film documentaire.

David is the inventor of the artisanal booms that got people in mouvement in August 2020 following Wakashio oil spill in Mauritius.

David Sauvage est un activiste politique et écologique de Rezistans ek Alternastiv. Il est ingénieur informatique et un ardent défenseur de la technologie ‘open source’ et du bien commun. David est l’inventeur des bouées artisanaux qui ont mis les gens en mouvement en août 2020 suite à la marée noire de Wakashio à Maurice.

Ashok Subron is a long time political and social activist from Mauritius. He is a founding member of Rezistans ek Alternativ and of the Centre for Alternative Research and Studies. As a union organiser Ashok is involved in different work sectors to mobilise and organise the workers. Ashok has been one of the main organisers of the people movement following Wakashio’s oil spill.

Ashok Subron est un militant politique et social de longue date à Maurice. Il est membre fondateur de Rezistans ek Alternativ et du Center for Alternative Research and Studies. En tant qu’organisateur syndical, Ashok est impliqué dans différents secteurs de travail pour mobiliser et organiser les travailleurs. Ashok a été l’un des principaux organisateurs du mouvement populaire après la marée noire de Wakashio à Maurice.
